Version 2026-10-29. Effective 7 December 2026 for existing users, and on installation for new users. This page is the web version of the license text shown by the installer. The app links to this page under Settings > About.
Please read this Agreement before you install or use eclean. By clicking "I Agree", installing, or using the Software, you accept it. If you do not accept it, do not install or use the Software.
1. Who this agreement is with
This is the license for the desktop app, and it is between you and eclean Labs AB. Your account, subscription and the website are covered by the Terms of Service.
This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is between you and eclean Labs AB ("eclean", "we", "us"), a Swedish aktiebolag.
- eclean Labs AB
- Organization number: 559546-5831
- VAT number: SE559546583101
- Storgatan 41C, 931 31 Skellefteå, Sweden
- Email: legal@eclean.gg
"Software" means the eclean desktop application for Windows, its installer, its background service, its updates, and the bundled data files that come with it. If you accept this Agreement on behalf of a company, you confirm that you may bind it, and "you" means that company.
This Agreement covers the Software on your device. Your account, your subscription and the eclean website are covered by our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Refund Policy. If this Agreement and the Terms of Service conflict about installing or running the Software on your device, this Agreement applies to that point.
2. License
You may install and run eclean on your own devices for your own use. We keep ownership of the software, and the license can be withdrawn if you break the rules here.
Subject to this Agreement and, for paid features, payment of the applicable fees, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable license to:
- (a) install the Software on devices you own or control, up to the number your plan allows;
- (b) run the Software on those devices to maintain, clean and configure them; and
- (c) use the account-based features that belong to your plan.
The Software is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights that this Agreement does not expressly give you. A free plan is available with no time limit. Some features need a paid plan, and the Software and the pricing page show which.
Device limits. Each signed-in PC is registered to your account. A Free account can have up to 3 registered devices. A Pro plan can activate up to 2 devices. A Family plan has a pool of 5 devices that its members share. Whatever your plan, one account can hold at most 64 devices. The Software enforces these limits when you sign in, and you can remove a device from your account at any time.
Offline use. Paid features are confirmed by a signed license token that the Software renews while it is online. If the Software cannot reach our servers, paid features keep working for up to 72 hours after the last confirmation. After that the Software runs with the Free plan until it can confirm your plan again.
3. What you may not do
Do not copy, take apart, resell or misuse the app, or get around its limits and security checks. Open-source parts keep the rights their own licenses give you.
Except where mandatory law gives you the right, you may not:
- (a) copy, modify, translate or create derivative works of the Software;
- (b) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, or try to extract its source code. Mandatory law that lets you decompile the Software to make it interoperate with other software applies, but only after you have asked us for the information and we have not provided it within a reasonable time;
- (c) remove or hide copyright or other proprietary notices;
- (d) rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the Software;
- (e) bypass or interfere with license checks, plan limits, device limits, code signing, update signature checks or other security measures;
- (f) use the Software to build a competing product, or to attack, probe or overload our services; or
- (g) use the Software to break the law or to damage systems you do not have the right to change.
Open-source components keep their own licenses (section 12). Nothing in this section restricts the rights those licenses give you.
4. Accounts
Paid and cloud features need an account, and you are responsible for it. You must be at least 16 to use the app.
Paid features, device management and cloud features need an account. You are responsible for your credentials and for what happens under your account. Keep your details correct and tell us at security@eclean.gg if you suspect misuse.
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Software, and you confirm this when you create an account. If you are younger than 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to this Agreement where your local law requires it. You may buy a subscription only if you are 18 or older, or if a parent or guardian has agreed to the purchase.
Prices, billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds are set out in the Terms of Service and the Refund Policy. Depending on your billing country, the seller is either eclean Labs AB (EU member states and Monaco) or Stripe as merchant of record (all other supported countries). Your account shows which one applies. The product and the refund policy are the same on both.
5. Updates
The app can update itself with signed updates, and we can switch off a release that is unsafe. If an update makes things materially worse, you can stop using it.
The Software checks for updates and can download and install them. The Software checks the signature of an update before it installs it. Updates may fix bugs, change features, improve security or adjust the Software to changes in Windows and in the law. We may also publish an emergency notice for a release or a feature that has a serious fault or is unsafe to run. The Software checks for it at start-up, and it can require you to install a newer version before you keep using the Software.
If an update makes a material change that is worse for you in a way you did not agree to, you may stop using that version and end this Agreement (section 14). Some features need the current version to work, because they depend on our servers or on current Windows behavior. We do not promise support for old versions, and we do not promise that a version stays available once a newer one replaces it, other than what the law requires.
Supported systems are 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11.
6. What the Software does to your PC
eclean changes your system settings and can delete files, and that carries risk. Read what each action does, and back up first.
eclean is a tool that changes your system. That is its purpose and it carries risk. Please read this section.
- (a) Administrator rights and the privileged service. Installing eclean needs administrator approval (a Windows UAC prompt). The installer registers the "eclean Privileged Service", which runs as LocalSystem and starts on demand. It exists so that eclean can make approved system changes later without asking for a UAC prompt each time. It accepts a fixed list of commands, only from the eclean program in its install folder that carries a valid eclean signature, and it is not reachable over the network. Most commands also need the Windows user to be an administrator. Removing eclean removes the service. The first time eclean runs, it sets itself to start with Windows for your Windows account. This is on by default and you can turn it off in the welcome tour or in Settings. If you turn on scheduled cleaning, eclean registers a Windows scheduled task named
\eclean\ScheduledJunkCleaner-<SID>for your Windows account (the SID is your account's Windows security identifier). - (b) System tweaks. The Optimizer changes Windows registry values and settings and can run system tools such as powercfg, fsutil, dism, bcdedit and netsh. Some tweaks lower a protection or a safety margin on purpose, for example virtualization-based security, CPU vulnerability mitigations, SEHOP, DEP or older network protections. Read the description of each tweak before you apply it, and choose such tweaks only if you understand the trade-off. A PC with them off is more exposed to attack. In Atlas mode, eclean can run scripts from an AtlasOS folder that you supply, after it has checked their signature and checksum. You choose which tweaks to apply. We do not apply tweaks without your action, except those you have set to run automatically, such as Keep optimized, Automatic DNS and Performance mode.
- (c) Reversal and backups. eclean records the previous value of the settings it changes and offers to put them back. This history is eclean's own record. It is not a Windows System Restore point, and eclean does not create System Restore points or backups. A tweak can also be affected by Windows updates, drivers or other software, and some changes cannot be fully reversed (for example a changed driver state, a removed program or a deleted file). Before you apply system tweaks, create a Windows restore point or a full backup of your data. Keeping backups is your responsibility.
- (d) Deleting files. The Cleaner removes files from locations that match its catalog. You review the selection before it runs, but you are responsible for what you confirm. Items you select can be deleted permanently (not moved to the Recycle Bin), and the same holds for the Large Files tool and the Uninstaller's leftover cleanup when you choose permanent deletion. The Cleaner can include browser data such as caches, and, only if you select those items, cookies, history, saved form data or sign-in data. Clearing them signs you out of sites.
- (e) Reading your system. To do its job, eclean reads information about your PC, including installed programs, start-up items, services, scheduled tasks, drivers, network and DNS settings, browser extensions, disk health, and file names, sizes and dates in your personal folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos) for the Large Files tool. eclean does not read the contents of your personal documents, photos or videos, other than the limited checks needed to identify a file type. Section 8 covers what leaves your device.
- (f) File shredder. Quick mode deletes a file in the normal way, without overwriting it. The file does not go to the Recycle Bin, but its data can often be recovered with other tools. Secure mode (a Pro feature) overwrites the file 3 times with random data, checks the last pass and then deletes it. Overwriting is not a guarantee on solid-state drives (SSDs) and other flash storage, on drives with wear leveling, on files held in cloud sync, in shadow copies or in backups, or on journaling and compressed file systems. Old data can remain elsewhere on the device. If you need guaranteed destruction, use full-disk encryption or destroy the drive.
- (g) DNS changes. The DNS optimizer can test public DNS resolvers and change the DNS servers on your network adapters. Resolvers you select get to see the names you look up, under their own terms.
- (h) Uninstalling programs. Removing a program, and its leftovers, cannot be undone by eclean.
- (i) Third-party programs and services. eclean works with Windows, winget, browsers and other software that we do not control. Their behavior can change and affect how eclean works.
The Software is provided to be used with care. You are responsible for checking what an action will do before you confirm it. We do not promise a particular speed gain.
7. Your PC, your data and connections
A summary of what the app stores on your PC. The Privacy Policy is the full notice.
The Software sends data to us and to a few providers. This section is a summary. The Privacy Policy is the full notice and controls on questions of personal data. We act as controller for this data.
- (a) What stays on your device. The results of scans and checks, including lists of installed programs, start-up items, registry values, file names and system details, stay on your device. The only exceptions are the items described in section 8.
- (b) What is stored on your device. Settings, history of actions, logs and caches are kept in %APPDATA%\gg.eclean.desktop and, for the service, in %ProgramData%\eclean. Your sign-in session is stored encrypted with Windows DPAPI for your Windows account. Uninstalling eclean can leave some of these files behind, and you can delete them yourself.
- (c) Connections the Software needs. Section 8 lists them. Your IP address is visible to every server the Software contacts.
8. What leaves your device
Some data is essential to run eclean and always sent. Error, crash, performance and usage data are on by default, and you can switch each one off in Settings > Privacy.
Some data is essential to run eclean and cannot be switched off. Other data is optional: it is on by default, a first-run notice tells you so, and every item has its own switch.
(a) Essential data. The Software always sends the following, whatever your privacy choices. We need it to provide the license, to secure and maintain the service, and to count devices against your plan.
- Account and plan calls, meaning sign-in, session refresh, license (entitlement) checks, plan and billing information, and your account's messages and notifications.
- Device registration. When you are signed in, the Software registers your PC with your account at the start of each session. It sends the Windows machine identifier (MachineGuid), the computer name (hostname), the platform, the Software version and how it was started, so that we can count devices against your plan and let you manage them. The machine identifier is also sent when you start a sign-in in the browser. Our servers use a keyed hash of it for the device list, and keep the identifier itself with your sign-in session while that lasts.
- Presence. About every 30 seconds while you are signed in, including in the tray, the Software tells us that it is running and whether the window is open or in the tray. This keeps your plan current in the running app. We hold your account ID and the time for about two minutes for this.
- Feature settings, fetched with a random install ID and the Software version, also when you are signed out.
- Update checks and emergency notices. The request tells us whether it is an update check or an emergency check. When you are signed in, the Software also tells our servers which version it was offered.
- Counts that an installation, update or launch happened, with the version, how it was launched, a random install ID, your language and Windows version.
- Uninstall page. When you uninstall interactively, the installer opens a short exit page on eclean.gg with the version, installation age and install ID in the address.
(b) Optional data, on by default, each with a switch. When you first run eclean, and once after an update from a version that had no such choice, the Software shows a notice that lists the categories below as on. Each has a switch, and an "Only essential" button turns all of them off at once. You can change any of them at any time in Settings > Privacy. Turning one off is how you object to it. If you had already switched off usage data, error reports or crash reports in an earlier version, that choice stays off. The Privacy Policy gives the legal basis and the retention period for each.
- Anonymous usage statistics show which features and screens are used. They carry a random install ID only, with no account, email address or username. They include your CPU vendor, your GPU vendor and your memory as a size class (up to 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64+ GB), never model names or exact amounts.
- Link my usage to my account adds a pseudonymous account ID to your usage when you are signed in, and your profile picture link if you have one. It never sends your email address or username. It also switches on two reports to your account and a first-value milestone that records the first time you reach a main result. The usage report holds daily counters such as space freed, cleans, scheduled cleans, tweaks applied and reverted, programs uninstalled and startup items turned off, with no file names or paths. The drive health report holds, for each drive, the model and size, an ok, warning or failing status and reason codes, tied to a hashed drive identifier, with no serial numbers, drive letters or temperatures. In return you get "Your eclean report" on the Usage page of the website (30 days and 12 months), and an email when a drive gets worse, at most once per drive and status in 30 days. Turning the switch off deletes the totals and drive results we hold for your account. Turning off anonymous usage statistics also stops the link.
- Personalized tips let the in-app messages, cards and yearly recap use how you use eclean. This switch never decides an email. Turning the switch off removes your recap figures and your usage cards, and your account then counts only in anonymous totals. Emails based on your usage are a separate opt-in choice in your account settings on the website. If you have never paid and have made no email choice, the app may show a card, "Get tips and product news by email", at most twice. Accepting turns on Updates and Newsletter only, and you can change it at any time in your email preferences.
- Error reports send technical details about errors, warnings and slow operations to Sentry (EU region, Frankfurt) to help us fix them, after common personal details are removed. They also carry your install ID, Windows build and plan. When you are signed in they carry your account ID, whether or not "Link my usage to my account" is on.
- Crash reports send crash data from the app and the service to Sentry. A crash report can include technical information about the program's memory state and the programs and modules loaded at the time. We try to remove personal details, but that removal is not reliable for crash reports, and a report can contain file paths and your Windows user name.
- Performance data sends start-up timings, memory use and responsiveness figures about the Software itself every few minutes to our own monitoring service. They also describe your PC in broad terms: Windows build, CPU architecture and vendor, a memory size class, the type of your system drive and the WebView2 version. They do not carry your account, device or install ID.
(c) Things you start yourself or that setup turns on.
- Ratings and feedback. If you rate an item (for example a start-up entry, a program, a browser extension or an app package) or send feedback, we receive what you submit, and a rating is stored with your account. A rating includes details of that item such as its name, publisher, version and file location, with the Windows user folder replaced where the Software can identify it. This is the only time the Software sends names or paths of items from your PC to us, and only when you submit a rating. The box "Share this review with the app's developer if they ask for feedback" starts unticked. Feedback you type is sent as you typed it, so do not put personal data in it.
- Checkout. When you start a purchase, the Software asks our server for a checkout and opens a Stripe-hosted page in your browser. Payments are never handled inside the Software.
- Pages in your browser. Links to our website, help center, status page and, if you ask for it, a web search for an item (using your chosen search engine) open in your default browser.
- DNS tests. The DNS optimizer sends DNS lookups for well-known, randomized names to public resolvers that it tests, such as Cloudflare, Google, Quad9, OpenDNS and AdGuard. Those resolvers see your IP address and the names looked up. This runs when you use the optimizer and, if you turn on Automatic DNS, in the background.
- Discord Rich Presence. The first-run setup switches it on. It shows information such as the page you are on and your plan to Discord and to people who can see your Discord profile. The preset that shows system information puts details of your hardware on your Discord profile. You can turn it off in the setup or in Settings > Discord.
- App updates uses Windows Package Manager (winget) from Microsoft to find and install new versions of the programs on your PC. Winget runs on your PC and contacts Microsoft's and the publishers' servers itself, under their terms. eclean sends nothing to Microsoft for this.
Legal bases, retention, processors, transfers and your rights are in the Privacy Policy. Contact privacy@eclean.gg with questions or requests about your data. You can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) or to the authority in your own EU country.
9. Our rights and yours
We own the software and its branding. You own your files and data.
The Software, its name, logo, design and documentation belong to eclean Labs AB or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. This Agreement does not transfer ownership to you.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, you give us the right to use them without charge or obligation to you. That does not cover your personal data, which is governed by the Privacy Policy.
Your files and data belong to you. We take no ownership of them.
10. Warranty
Your legal rights always apply. Beyond them, the app is provided as is, with no promise that it will be error-free or make your PC faster by a set amount.
We give you the rights the law gives you. Subject to that, the Software is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that it will be free of errors, that it will work with every hardware and software combination, that it will improve speed or stability by a particular amount, or that it will run without interruption.
If you are a consumer, nothing in this Agreement limits your mandatory statutory rights, including the rights of a consumer under the EU Digital Content Directive (EU) 2019/770 as implemented in your country, and under Swedish consumer law (for example the Consumer Sales Act, konsumentköplagen (2022:260), and its rules on digital content) if you live in Sweden. These include rights to have the Software conform to the contract, to receive updates needed to keep it in conformity, and to remedies when it does not.
11. Liability
We are liable where the law says we must be. For businesses, liability is capped, and you are responsible for your own backups.
Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law. This includes liability for death or personal injury, for intent or gross negligence, for fraud, and for any other liability that mandatory consumer law does not allow us to exclude.
Subject to that:
- (a) if you are a consumer, we are liable for loss and damage that was a foreseeable result of our breach of this Agreement, under applicable law, and your statutory rights are unaffected;
- (b) if you use the Software for a business, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill, and our total liability for all claims about the Software in any twelve months is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event and EUR 100; and
- (c) you are responsible for backups. Loss of data caused by a tweak, a deletion or an uninstall that you confirmed is, as far as the law allows, not our responsibility. This does not limit anything in the first paragraph of this section.
12. Third-party and open-source software
Parts of eclean are open-source or made by others and follow their own licenses. The full list is on the attributions page.
The Software includes and uses third-party components, including open-source libraries, that are covered by their own licenses. Those licenses apply to those components instead of this Agreement. The list of open-source licenses is available from About > Legal > Open-source licenses in the Software, which opens the attributions page. The notices that a license requires us to reproduce are in the appendix to this Agreement.
Third-party services you reach through the Software (such as Stripe, Microsoft winget, Discord, your search engine, and public DNS resolvers) have their own terms and privacy notices. We are not responsible for them.
13. Export, sanctions and law
Do not use eclean in breach of export or sanctions rules, or from a comprehensively sanctioned country.
You may not use or export the Software in breach of EU, Swedish or United States export control or sanctions laws, and you confirm that you are not located in, or ordinarily resident in, a country or territory that is under comprehensive EU or US sanctions (currently Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria), or on a restricted-party list.
14. Termination
You can stop any time by uninstalling. We can end the license if you seriously break these rules, and we refund prepaid fees if we stop offering the app.
You can stop using the Software at any time by uninstalling it. You can delete your account from your account settings or by contacting privacy@eclean.gg. Canceling and refunds follow the Terms of Service and the Refund Policy.
We may end your license, suspend access to account features, or both, if you materially breach this Agreement and do not fix it within a reasonable period after we ask. No notice is needed where the breach cannot be fixed or where the security of the service or other users is at risk. We may also end the license by giving you reasonable notice if we stop offering the Software, and we will refund any prepaid fees for the period that you could not use paid features.
When this Agreement ends, you must stop using the Software and uninstall it. Sections 9, 10, 11, 12 and 15 to 17 continue to apply. Files created or changed by eclean on your PC stay as they are.
15. Changes to this agreement
We give at least 30 days' notice of material changes. If you disagree, you can leave and get a refund for the unused part of your period.
We may update this Agreement, for example for new features, legal changes or to fix errors. For material changes we give at least 30 days' notice, in the Software, on our website or by email to your account address (a service announcement, which every verified account receives and cannot turn off). If you do not agree, you can uninstall the Software and end your account before the change takes effect, and we will refund any prepaid fees for the unused part of your current period. If you keep using the Software after the change takes effect, you accept the new version. A change never reduces your mandatory rights as a consumer.
16. Governing law and disputes
Swedish law applies. Businesses go to the Skellefteå district court, and consumers keep their home-country rights and complaint routes.
This Agreement is governed by Swedish law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
Business customers: disputes go to the district court of Skellefteå (Skellefteå tingsrätt) in Sweden.
Consumers: you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country. The EU online dispute resolution platform closed on 20 July 2025. If you live in the EU, the European Commission lists recognized dispute resolution bodies at consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu. If you live in Sweden you can take your case to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN), and you can contact the Swedish Consumer Agency (Konsumentverket). We will consider taking part in any such procedure. Contact us first at legal@eclean.gg and we will try to resolve it.
17. General
The usual boilerplate. This Agreement and the linked policies are the whole deal, and these are the addresses to write to.
- (a) Entire agreement: this Agreement, together with the Terms of Service, the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy, is the full agreement between us about the Software.
- (b) If a part of this Agreement is held invalid, the rest stays in force and the invalid part is replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its purpose.
- (c) Not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it.
- (d) We may transfer this Agreement to a company that takes over the Software, and will tell you. You may not transfer it without our written consent, except that it passes with the legal ownership of your account where law requires.
- (e) Language: this Agreement is in English. If we provide a translation, the English version prevails if they differ, unless local mandatory law says otherwise.
- (f) Contact: legal@eclean.gg (legal notices), privacy@eclean.gg (your data), security@eclean.gg (security issues), billing@eclean.gg (refunds and invoices), hello@eclean.gg (customer support and general questions). A report of a suspected security problem is welcome. Please do not test on other people's systems.
Appendix: Third-party notices
Notices that open-source and third-party licenses require us to reproduce. The complete list is on the attributions page.
Open-source and third-party components are listed with their licenses on the attributions page. The following notices are reproduced here because the license requires it.
Winapp2.ini (cleaning rule catalog) The Software includes the file resources\winapp2.ini, based on the Winapp2.ini project (https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2) and its contributors, and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/). eclean has made changes to some entries. Each changed entry is marked with an "; eclean:" comment in the file. The file is provided as an unencrypted, separate data file in the installation folder, and you may copy, change and share it under that license. This license applies to that file only, and not to the rest of the Software.
Windows Package Manager (winget) components The Software ships Microsoft's Windows Package Manager in-process COM libraries (Microsoft.Management.Deployment.InProc.dll and WindowsPackageManager.dll) and the Microsoft.Management.Deployment metadata. They are Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation and are provided under the MIT license. The license text and notice are in the winget-engine folder in the installation folder (LICENSE.txt and NOTICE.txt).
AtlasOS Atlas mode uses playbook definitions based on AtlasOS (https://github.com/Atlas-OS/Atlas). AtlasOS is a separate project and is not affiliated with eclean.
Fonts and icons The Software uses the Red Hat typefaces (SIL Open Font License 1.1), and icons from Remix Icon, Material Design Icons (Apache License 2.0) and Simple Icons (CC0 1.0).
Rust and JavaScript libraries The Software uses many open-source libraries, including Tauri, Sentry, rustls, SQLite, tokio, and Svelte, under permissive licenses such as MIT, Apache-2.0 and BSD. Their names, versions and license texts are listed on the attributions page.
